Estonia delivers Mistral air defence systems to Armed Forces of Ukraine

By Defence Industry Europe

The Estonian Ministry of Defence announced the delivery of short-range Mistral air defence systems and accompanying missiles to Ukraine. The statement, affirming Estonia's continued support for Ukraine's defence efforts, read: “Confirmed! Mistral short-range air defence systems and missiles provided by Estonia have been delivered to Ukraine. Let’s keep supporting Ukrainian freedom fighters. Together, we can.”

The Mistral system, developed in France, is a state-of-the-art air defence weapon designed to target low-flying aircraft and helicopters. It is versatile, available in a portable configuration known as MANPADS, and can also be deployed on various launch platforms, including vehicles, ships, and helicopters. The system has an effective range of up to six kilometers, making it a valuable asset in defending against aerial threats.

Estonia’s latest contribution is part of an ongoing series of military aid packages sent to Ukraine. Previously, Estonia has provided a wide array of military equipment, including Javelin anti-tank missile systems, howitzers, artillery, anti-tank mines, anti-tank grenade launchers, mortars, vehicles, communication equipment, field hospitals, medical supplies, personal protective gear, and rations.
