EU countries to develop next-generation air-to-air missile

By Defence Industry Europe

On May 23, the Council of the European Union adopted a decision to update the list of PESCO projects. One of the new 11 projects aims to develop next-generation short-range air-to-air missile.

The project, named “Future Short-Range Air to Air Missile” (FSRM), aims to develop concepts and operational requirements for a Short-Range Air to Air Missile (SRAAM) that can effectively counter modern 5th generation and future 6th generation combat aircraft and airborne threats. The project will follow a six-pillar approach until 2030.

Five EU member states are participating in the project: Germany, Spain, Italy, Hungary, and Sweden.
