This marks the first overseas deployment of the F-15EX, the U.S. Air Force’s most advanced version of the Eagle platform. It serves as a strategic preview of the 36 F-15EX aircraft set to be permanently stationed at Kadena from spring 2026.
“The arrival of the F-15EX at Kadena marks more than just a training opportunity, it’s a glimpse into the future of airpower in the Indo-Pacific,” said Brigadier General John Gallemore, Commander of the 18th Wing. “By operating this next-generation platform in its future environment, we’re laying the groundwork for seamless integration, sustained readiness, and a decisive edge in a rapidly evolving security landscape.”
While in the region, the F-15EX will also participate in Exercise Resolute Force Pacific 2025. The deployment allows crews to collect vital data that will inform future operations and enhance support capabilities.
This familiarisation phase provides both aircrews and maintenance teams with critical insights into logistics, sustainment, and operational integration in a forward-deployed context. Such experience will play a key role in ensuring the aircraft’s smooth and effective arrival next year.
“We’re using every test mission to gather critical data that helps refine the F-15EX and shape how we’ll operate and maintain it,” said First Lieutenant Kaylee O’Connor, Officer in Charge of the Red Aircraft Maintenance Unit, 96th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. “When the platform arrives at Kadena, it will integrate seamlessly with existing systems. These insights—from parts and sustainment to operational tempo—ensure it’s mission-ready from day one.”
Equipped with next-generation radar, electronic warfare systems, modern avionics, and expanded payload capacity, the F-15EX significantly enhances both offensive and defensive capabilities. Its deployment will strengthen deterrence, boost operational readiness, and reinforce the U.S.-Japan security alliance.
During the transition period, the U.S. Air Force will maintain a credible airpower presence at Kadena through a rotational mix of fourth- and fifth-generation aircraft. This approach ensures continued mission readiness and operational resilience across the theatre.
As regional dynamics continue to evolve, the 18th Wing remains prepared to deliver agile, lethal, and resilient airpower. The F-15EX’s arrival signals a clear step forward in the future of U.S. airpower in the Indo-Pacific.
