Italian shipbuilding company Fincantieri has officially handed over the amphibious vessel “Al Fulk” (Landing Platform Dock – LPD) to the Ministry of Defence of Qatar. The handover ceremony, held at the Muggiano shipyard in La Spezia, marks the completion of a significant naval programme for the Qatari Navy.

This programme also included the delivery of four “Al Zubarah-class” corvettes and two “Musherib-class” Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs). Attendees of the event included Staff Major General Abdulla Bin Hassan Al Sulaiti, Commander of the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces, and Vice Admiral Andrea Gueglio, Director of the Italian Navy Military Personnel Directorate. Fincantieri’s CEO and General Manager, Pierroberto Folgiero, along with the Naval Vessels Division General Manager, Dario Deste, welcomed the dignitaries.

Built at Fincantieri’s Palermo and Muggiano shipyards, “Al Fulk” adheres to RINAMIL standards, ensuring it meets high-performance criteria for air, sea, and land operations. The vessel’s versatile design enables it to undertake a range of missions, from defence operations to humanitarian aid and support for ground forces.

The vessel is 143 metres long and 21.5 metres wide, with the capacity to accommodate up to 550 people on board. Its features include a large flight deck capable of hosting NH90 helicopters, a spacious garage with two vehicle ramps, and a floodable internal dock designed to deploy landing craft.
