The “Capability Coalition Integrated Air and Missile Defence” (CC IAMD) was officially launched in Brussels, following the signing of a letter of intent previously endorsed in Kiev by Ukrainian officials. Signatory nations include Belgium, Denmark, Lithuania, Greece, and the United Kingdom, highlighting a significant international commitment.
German Defecse Minister Boris Pistorius emphasized air defence as a critical combat capability, essential for the success of Ukrainian forces. French Defence Minister Sébastien Lecornu underscored the coalition’s importance in protecting both the front lines and civilian populations in Ukraine.
Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from partner nations, noting the crucial role of air defence in saving Ukrainian lives amid ongoing Russian missile and drone attacks.
The coalition aims to collectively address and meet immediate and long-term needs, establishing a sustainable air defence architecture compatible with NATO forces. Future steps include detailed planning and execution of specific work programs, with leadership roles in various task groups being taken by France, Germany, and the United States.
France and Germany have already contributed significantly to Ukraine’s air defence, supplying advanced missile systems and other critical military equipment since the conflict’s escalation on February 24, 2022.
