French frigate intercepts three ballistic missiles with Aster 30 system

On March 21, the French Navy’s FREMM-class frigate Alsace, operating in the Red Sea, successfully destroyed three ballistic missiles using the Aster 30 interceptors.

 

The Alsace frigate is deployed in the Red Sea as part of the EUNAVFOR ASPIDES, a European Union military operation aimed at protecting merchant shipping.

The press service of EUNAVFOR ASPIDES announced on the X social platform that the French warship had destroyed three ballistic missiles launched by Houthi rebels from Yemen.

The interception was carried out using long-range air defense missiles, Aster 30, equipped on the Alsace frigate.

This event marked the first time the Aster 30 interceptor was used against a ballistic target. According to MBDA, the manufacturer of the missile, the Aster 30’s range exceeds 100 km.
