German defence company Gabler has revealed two new uncrewed surface vessel (USV) concepts designed for torpedo tube launch (TTL), marking a significant step in its expansion into autonomous naval systems. The unveiling took place at the 27th DWT Naval Workshop in Dobbin-Linstow, where Gabler also introduced a refreshed brand identity.

Known for its submarine masts and tactical systems, Gabler is developing the USVs in partnership with FLANQ to support Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) and tactical strike missions. The two models, named Ranger and Raider, share a 4.5-metre-long, 300-metre depth-rated hull, folding mast and keel, electric drivetrain, and multiple payload bays.

Ranger is a reusable USV equipped with a sensor suite for real-time ISR operations, allowing submarines to deploy and retrieve it covertly. This capability enhances mission success while maintaining stealth and minimising exposure to threats.

Raider is designed for single-use missions and can carry a user-supplied effector payload in its forward compartment, enabling targeted actions without compromising the host submarine’s safety. Both platforms are intended to operate in complex maritime environments with minimal risk to crews.

The USV development programme has been fast-tracked, with Gabler and FLANQ working closely with European defence suppliers and sovereign partners to ensure system interoperability. Integration with existing naval assets is a core focus of the project.

Lars Wischnewski, Director of Sales and Products at Gabler, said: “As we unveil these USVs at DWT 2025 – less than two months since our original announcement – our focus is clear: deliver uncrewed-first operational capabilities for European and NATO naval forces that are fast, flexible, and cost-effective.” He added: “These platforms will shape the future of naval operations, providing unmatched versatility in complex and contested environments. Ranger and Raider also mark a new chapter for Gabler – reflected in our exciting and modern brand identity and tagline: We Dive Deeper.”
