General Dynamics Electric Boat secures $1.85 billion contract for Virginia-class submarine

The contract modification pertains specifically to the Virginia-class submarines, a key component of the U.S. Navy’s undersea fleet. It enables the purchase of critical materials and components that require extended manufacturing and delivery timelines.

“This contract modification allows for the acquisition of critical material and components for Virginia-class submarines that require substantial lead time to manufacture and deliver,” said Mark Rayha, president of General Dynamics Electric Boat. “It sends a continued demand signal, supporting supplier investment in the capacity and materials needed to achieve our required production volume.”

Rayha also emphasised the importance of sustained support in meeting naval demands. “Consistent funding and support such as this contract modification is essential for the shipyards to achieve the high-rate production of submarines the Navy needs,” he added.

General Dynamics Electric Boat is based in Groton, Connecticut, and specialises in the design, construction, repair, and modernisation of nuclear submarines for the U.S. Navy. The company currently employs over 24,000 personnel.
