General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS), a business unit of General Dynamics, has announced the successful completion of the Critical Design Review for the XM30 Infantry Combat Vehicle. The company remains on schedule to deliver prototypes to the U.S. Army for testing in 2026.

The XM30 is part of the Army’s “born-digital” pathfinder programme and represents a major shift in the approach to combat vehicle development. The fully digital design review marks a crucial advancement in aligning with the Army’s intent to modernise the development process.

“We have invested since day one of this program to deliver essential, transformational capabilities to the Army,” said Keith Barclay, General Dynamics Land Systems vice president and general manager of U.S. operations. “We also continue to collaborate with best-in-class technology partners and are very excited to bring their innovative solutions to the competition.”

The XM30 platform is specifically designed to meet the Army’s performance requirements and to enhance battlefield capabilities. It also supports the Army’s directive for a Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) in both software and hardware from the outset.

Using modern development tools, GDLS has implemented a digital thread extending across engineering, verification, production, support and sustainment. This approach ensures the XM30 can be continuously modernised throughout its service life.

“We fully embrace MOSA and digital engineering,” said Barclay. “They allow our engineering teams to implement capabilities that provide the Army more efficiency and more flexibility for future enhancements.”

Barclay concluded, “We are proud that our years of innovation, research, development and investment have led to this moment in the XM30 program.”
