General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) has been awarded a contract by General Dynamics Electric Boat to manufacture and deliver three shipsets of Virginia Payload Tubes (VPTs) for Block VI Virginia-class submarines. General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) announced it has been awarded an $18.2 million cost-plus-fixed-fee and firm-fixed-price contract for the development, maintenance, and delivery of the Common Weapon Launcher and Multi-Tube Weapon Simulator. The five-year agreement includes options which, if exercised, would increase the total value to $230 million.

The contract supports Foreign Military Sales to Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States under the AUKUS partnership. Work will be carried out in Manassas, Virginia (60%), Charleroi, Pennsylvania (30%), and Middletown, Rhode Island (10%).

Under this contract, Progeny Systems, a business area of GDMS, will develop and deliver new and modernised weapon launch and weapon simulation capabilities while continuing to provide in-service support for previously delivered systems. Progeny Systems was acquired by GDMS in 2022 and is headquartered in Manassas, Virginia.

“Progeny Systems is a trusted provider of submarine combat system capabilities. We look forward to providing the U.S. and our Australian and United Kingdom partners with these critical submarine warfighting and training capabilities,” said Dr. Laura Hooks, vice president and general manager of Maritime and Strategic Systems at General Dynamics Mission Systems.

Progeny Systems provides a wide range of capabilities and lifecycle support services for U.S. submarines and surface ships, reinforcing GDMS’s role in supporting the AUKUS alliance’s defence and training objectives.
