The German government has approved the use of a contract option to procure 20 additional Airbus H145M multi-role helicopters. This decision increases the total number of H145Ms to be delivered to the German armed forces from 62 to 82 units.

The initial contract, signed in December 2023, included 62 H145M helicopters – 57 for the Bundeswehr and 7 for the Luftwaffe – along with an option for 20 more aircraft. The configuration of the additional helicopters has not been disclosed, but the main objective of the December agreement was to acquire multi-role helicopters that would primarily replace the Airbus Tiger attack helicopters.

Deliveries of the helicopters included in the guaranteed order began in November 2024, supporting the ongoing modernisation of Germany’s helicopter fleet. The Ministry of Defence of the Federal Republic of Germany continues to expand its procurement, with eight H145M helicopters already delivered to search and rescue (SAR) units and sixteen to special forces.
