German startup Alpine Eagle secures EUR 10 million to advance drone defence technology

By Defence Industry Europe

Munich-based defence technology startup Alpine Eagle GmbH has raised €10.25 million in seed funding, led by IQ Capital. The round also saw participation from High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), Expeditions Fund, Sentris Capital, and previous investors General Catalyst and HCVC.

Founded by CEO Jan-Hendrik Boelens, a former Airbus chief engineer, and Director Timo Breuer, a former Microsoft Research scientist, Alpine Eagle is focused on countering aerial threats. Their flagship product, Sentinel, is a hardware-agnostic system designed to integrate with both commercial and customised uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) to detect and neutralise hostile drones.

HTGF stated that the newly secured funding will be used to further develop Sentinel, expand the company’s commercial teams, and prepare for international growth. The investment comes as autonomous warfare and drone-based threats continue to rise globally.

Alpine Eagle recently participated in a German Federal Armed Forces warfighting experiment, where Sentinel was tested in real-world operational conditions. The company also trialled a swarm of four sensor drones working together to detect hostile aerial threats, demonstrating its advanced capabilities.
