Commenting on the agreement, Eric Béranger said: “METEOR is a defining example of the strength of multinational collaboration in delivering world-leading defence capabilities.” He added: “This latest contract from Germany, one of the missile’s development partners, reflects continued confidence in a programme that unites cutting-edge technologies from six European nations, through a unique partnership led by MBDA, to deliver a common decisive military capability.”
Béranger also stated: “In 2025, we saw another successful year for METEOR, as nations continued to invest in its air dominance and secure the sovereignty of their airspaces.” METEOR is developed through a European consortium led by MBDA, bringing together Germany, the UK, France, Italy, Spain and Sweden.
The missile uses a ramjet propulsion system with a solid fuel, variable flow, ducted rocket produced in Germany by MBDA subsidiary Bayern-Chemie, providing thrust all the way to target intercept and a large ‘No Escape Zone’. METEOR is operational on several combat aircraft including Typhoon, Rafale, Gripen and the KF-21 Boramae, while in 2025 it progressed on the F-35 with a first flight on the F-35B, ground tests ahead of the F-35A, and a successful test firing by the Brazilian Air Force from its F-39E Gripen E fighters.
