GKN Aerospace secures six-year contract extension with BAE Systems for Typhoon transparencies

By Defence Industry Europe

GKN Aerospace has signed a six-year follow-on contract with BAE Systems for the continued manufacture of transparencies for the Eurofighter Typhoon, extending production through to the end of 2030. The transparencies will be delivered from GKN Aerospace’s facility in Luton, ensuring stable production and sustainable support for the Typhoon fleet.

This new agreement guarantees ongoing supply to international Typhoon customers and maintains uninterrupted manufacturing at the Luton site. It also provides long-term security for the company’s order book, reinforcing its presence in the defence supply chain well into the next decade.

“This is a critical time for the European defence industry as it steps up to meet increasing government commitments and growing equipment needs,” said Shawn Black, President of GKN Aerospace’s Defence business. “We are proud to continue our long partnership with BAE Systems on this iconic platform, and honoured to support the Typhoon fleet and protect our servicemen and women.”

The Eurofighter Typhoon is among the world’s most advanced multi-role combat aircraft, developed by a four-nation European consortium and operated by nine air forces globally. The programme supports over 20,000 jobs across the UK and contributes £1.4 billion in export sales, having already returned more than double the UK’s £12 billion investment.

GKN Aerospace, a global leader in aerospace and defence technology, supplies innovative aerostructures and engine systems to 90% of today’s aircraft. With over 16,000 employees across 30 sites in 12 countries, the company is also at the forefront of sustainable aviation, developing technologies for emission-free flight.
