GM Defense and EDGE partner to explore strategic defence opportunities

GM Defense, a subsidiary of General Motors, and EDGE Group have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore joint opportunities in light tactical vehicle development. The collaboration will focus on delivering advanced mobility solutions for military customers in the Middle East, Africa, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

 

Under the agreement, GM Defense will work closely with EDGE’s NIMR Automotive to assess potential defence projects. The MoU was signed at the International Defence Exhibition & Conference (IDEX) 2025 in Abu Dhabi, with key attendees including U.S. Ambassador to the UAE Martina A. Strong, GM Africa & Middle East President Jack Uppal, and NIMR CEO Abri du Plessis.

“This strategic agreement marks a major step towards localising GM Defense’s advanced capabilities and expanding our presence in new global defence markets,” said Steve duMont, President of GM Defense. “Together, we are positioned to deliver high-performance, reliable mobility solutions that enhance mission success for our customers.”

Khaled Al Zaabi, President of Platforms & Systems at EDGE, highlighted the significance of the partnership in advancing regional defence solutions. “By combining EDGE’s operational expertise and infrastructure with GM Defense’s industry-leading technology, we aim to drive innovation and elevate military capabilities across key markets,” he said.

GM Defense and EDGE will leverage their respective strengths to develop next-generation tactical vehicles that meet the evolving needs of modern armed forces. The agreement underscores both companies’ commitment to enhancing defence mobility through cutting-edge engineering and strategic cooperation.
