Under this deal, Lockheed Martin will transfer technology to Australia, ensuring the establishment of certification processes and the technical proficiency of Australian workers. This initial order of GMLRS ammunition is part of a broader strategy to enhance Australia’s ability to produce missile ammunition.
This acquisition aligns with Canberra’s strategic direction of bolstering its industrial potential for long-range ammunition production and enhancing its military forces.
A total of 4.1 billion AUD is allocated for this purpose, including the procurement of new PrSM (Precision Strike Missiles) for HIMARS systems.
Australia has already ordered 20 HIMARS units, along with ammunition and equipment, and received approval in August 2023 to acquire an additional 22 launchers.
