Hanwha Aerospace has signed a three-year framework agreement with Sweden’s Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) to supply Modular Charge Systems (MCS) for artillery use. The agreement includes an initial order valued at approximately $110 million and was formalised at the AUSA 2025 Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.

The signing ceremony was attended by senior representatives, including Billy Boo-Hwan Lee, Head of the PGM Business Group at Hanwha Aerospace, and Jonas Lotsne, Head of the Army Material Division at FMV. This marks the second such agreement between the two parties, following a previous contract signed last year.

The MCS is a modular propellant system for 155mm artillery platforms, allowing flexible charge adjustments to suit specific range and firing conditions. Fully NATO-standard compliant, the system enhances interoperability with allied artillery systems such as the K9 Self-Propelled Howitzer.

Billy Boo-Hwan Lee said, “This contract is a tangible result of the deep trust and collaborative partnership we have built with Sweden. We are committed to delivering the highest quality, most reliable MCS to contribute meaningfully to the enhancement of Sweden’s national defense capabilities.”

Jonas Lotsne stated, “Our contracts with Hanwha are an important part of securing propellent supplies, while we also invest significant effort in Nordic cooperation to increase production capacity within the region.” The agreement strengthens Sweden’s strategic defence partnerships and Hanwha’s position in Northern Europe.

Hanwha Aerospace aims to extend its presence into neighbouring countries, including Norway, and continue defence cooperation with Sweden. Future proposals may include advanced weapon systems such as the K9 SPH and Chunmoo MRLS.
