HENSOLDT: Kalaetron Attack jamming system develops quickly

By Defence Industry Europe

Sensor solutions provider HENSOLDT has announced that it is making significant progress in the development of its Kalaetron Attack jamming system against air defence radars.

The system has proved itself in ground and flight tests against air defence radars of various types. Modifications in the installation on the aircraft have increased the range of Kalaetron Attack, and further jamming modes have been implemented. The tests were conducted on a PC-12 test aircraft with an electromagnetic compatibility check with on-board systems.

Kalaetron Attack is part of HENSOLDT’s digital Kalaetron product family, which is used in self-protection and signal reconnaissance systems by the German Bundeswehr. The Kalaetron Attack jamming system is equipped with cognitive elements of artificial intelligence, a fully digitalised, broadband sensor, and an electronically controllable jammer. Thanks to metallic 3D printing, the jammer can be easily integrated into pod formats commonly used worldwide or directly into various flying platforms. The system can also be used in land- or ship-based applications due to its scalability.

According to Christoph Ruffner, Head of the Spectrum Dominance & Airborne Solutions Division at HENSOLDT, “With the successful ground tests and the upcoming test flights, we fulfil the requirements for participation in Bundeswehr exercises and trials. Thus, Kalætron Attack proves its capability for use in airborne electronic warfare.” After Kalaetron Attack has proven its effectiveness in the “Airborne Electronic Attack” mission, HENSOLDT plans to combine the jamming system with the Kalaetron Integral signal intelligence system as the next step.

HENSOLDT is a leading provider of sensor solutions for defence and security applications. The company specialises in radar, electronic warfare, and optronic sensor systems, as well as air traffic control and identification systems. HENSOLDT’s Kalaetron product family is a major asset for the German Bundeswehr and other military forces worldwide in their missions to protect against airborne threats.

The successful development of Kalaetron Attack marks an important milestone in HENSOLDT’s efforts to provide advanced sensor solutions for airborne electronic warfare.
