HENSOLDT CEO Oliver Dörre highlighted the growing importance of data in modern warfare, stating: “Data is as important as ammunition on the battlefield. With MDOcore, we are creating a key capability for networked data fusion and analysis – independent of non-European platforms. In this way, we are securing sovereignty over our own mission data and making a decisive contribution to technological sovereignty.”
Developed from current operational experience, MDOcore is built on the principles of software-centred defence. It allows software modules to be updated or expanded during operation, enabling rapid adjustments when new threats emerge, including short-term updates during active deployment. A functional prototype featuring multi-domain data fusion and AI-supported analysis has already been successfully tested.
Acting as a “universal translator” for complex defence networks, MDOcore allows diverse systems – such as a German radar, a French air defence battery and an American command or weapon delivery system – to exchange data seamlessly in real time. Its open, modular architecture ensures compatibility with leading defence programme reference systems, while adhering to established software standards to prevent dependency on individual suppliers.
The MDOcore system is intuitive to use, allowing operators to interact through voice input or text commands. It provides precise, context-specific information that goes far beyond traditional situational awareness and is already prepared for cloud integration, swarm operations and future quantum computing applications. This readiness positions MDOcore for the operational demands of tomorrow’s digital battlefield.
Sven Heursch, Head of Software-Defined Defence & Digitalisation at HENSOLDT, described the suite’s strategic significance, stating: “MDOcore is more than a software suite – it is the foundation of a new way of thinking in defence technology. By decoupling hardware, software, data and algorithms, we are creating a modular architecture that is interoperable, scalable and future-proof. This creates a sovereign European defence infrastructure while strengthening long-term system capability.”
With the launch of MDOcore, HENSOLDT has taken a decisive step from being a traditional sensor provider to a supplier of real-time, data-centric defence architectures. By combining its established expertise with advanced data-driven analytical capabilities, the company is shaping a new standard of digital intelligence for the modern battlefield.
