HENSOLDT signs air surveillance contract with Space Centre Australia

By Defence Industry Europe

German sensor solutions company HENSOLDT has secured a contract with Space Centre Australia (SCA) to supply two advanced Air Surveillance Radar - Next Generation (ASR-NG) systems. The deal, valued at approximately EUR 20 million (around AUD 30 million), includes a 20-year sustainment plan to enhance Australia's air surveillance capabilities.

The ASR-NG systems, equipped with long-range signal processing technology, will be delivered by the end of 2026. These radars, capable of managing aircraft within a 120 NM radius and up to 50,000 feet, will ensure safe and efficient air traffic control.

As part of the agreement, HENSOLDT will begin providing sustainment services in 2027. The contract marks Australia as the largest global operator of ASR-NG systems, supporting both high-altitude and low-altitude airspace management.

During the signing ceremony, SCA executives, including CEO James Palmer and Chairman Scott Morrison, underscored the partnership’s importance. Morrison highlighted the radar systems’ role in improving Australia’s defence and aviation capabilities, particularly in the remote north.
