“We look forward to supporting the Navy on this critical programme,” said Chris Kastner, HII president and chief executive officer. “Speed matters, and the NSC ship design is stable and producible and will lead to predictable schedules. I have great confidence in the Ingalls team to execute this programme, and in our ongoing efforts with our partners to successfully expand the US shipbuilding industrial base to meet the Navy’s needs.”
Ingalls is currently building three classes of ships and modernising the Zumwalt-class destroyers, while it previously delivered 10 Legend-class cutters to the US Coast Guard, with the final ship handed over in October 2023. HII has invested more than $1 billion in Ingalls’ infrastructure and facilities and is working with 23 outsourcing partners and international manufacturers to expand shipbuilding capacity, including evaluating the addition of another US shipyard.
