The UK-based Westley Group, known for high-integrity metal castings, has been approved by HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division. The firm will provide critical castings for nuclear-powered submarines and aircraft carriers used by the U.S. Navy.
“Consistent with the need to have a more integrated supply chain, creating this new supplier that builds essential components adds to the incremental volume required to construct more submarines to meet national security needs,” said Matt Mulherin Jr., vice president of supply chain and strategic sourcing at Newport News Shipbuilding. “This benefits everyone in the partnership and is a key step toward strengthening and creating a more robust supplier network to meet the expanded need for nuclear-powered submarines.”
The partnership reflects HII’s focus on building a globally connected and resilient supply chain across the AUKUS nations. It also supports increased industrial integration to deliver on the alliance’s long-term submarine programme goals.
Westley Group operates four vertically integrated manufacturing sites in the UK and employs over 300 staff. Its capabilities span from casting production and precision machining to non-destructive testing and final assembly, ensuring quality and performance essential for defence missions.
