IAI in action: advanced solutions shield Israel across all domains during Operation Rising Lion

By Defence Industry Europe

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) played a key strategic role in Operation Rising Lion, delivering critical defence technologies that enabled real-time threat detection and response across multiple domains. As a national anchor for the State of Israel, IAI’s systems were central to countering an unprecedented, coordinated attack involving approximately 550 ballistic missiles, alongside hundreds of cruise missiles, UAVs, and rockets.

IAI’s advanced radar systems, including the Green Pine and Multi-Mission Radar (MMR), successfully identified and classified all airborne threats, guiding interceptors with high precision. Operating under extreme conditions, these systems demonstrated remarkable resilience, accuracy, and coordination with all branches of Israel’s security forces.

The Arrow-2 and Arrow-3 defence systems were deployed to intercept ballistic missiles launched by Iran, neutralising long-range threats before they could cause harm. Meanwhile, IAI’s Barak MX system operated effectively in both land and naval configurations, intercepting aircraft, cruise missiles, rockets, and sea-to-sea threats to protect strategic assets.

Heron (Shoval) and Heron TP (Eitan) unmanned aerial vehicles carried out thousands of flight hours in the so-called ‘third circle’, providing continuous surveillance and intelligence in remote theatres. These UAVs were integrated with artificial intelligence to merge data from multiple sensors, offering a multidimensional intelligence picture to support Israeli forces.

IAI’s Ofek reconnaissance satellites scanned tens of millions of square kilometres using electro-optical and radar sensors, supplying high-quality imagery around the clock. Simultaneously, Amos communications satellites ensured uninterrupted operational communications across all theatres of combat.

Intelligence aircraft from the Israeli Air Force’s Nachshon Squadron – including Eitam, Shavit, and Oron platforms – were deployed to gather strategic data and enhance command and control capabilities. Israel’s Boeing B-707 refuelling aircraft, also supported by IAI, carried out over 700 operations to enable long-range missions by Israeli fighter jets.

Electronic warfare systems, including COMINT and ELINT technologies developed by IAI, contributed vital intelligence and operational support. These systems were essential in creating an integrated, real-time operational picture across air, sea, land, and space.

Boaz Levy, IAI’s President and CEO, stated: “The State of Israel demonstrated to the world that it possesses some of the most advanced and effective operational capabilities, underpinned by technological superiority and strategic preparedness. In this latest war, Israel’s defence industries, led by IAI, stood as a key pillar of national defence.”

He added: “For the first time, our country faced a coordinated attack involving hundreds of ballistic missiles, and we are proud that Israeli-developed systems delivered a full-spectrum, strategic response across air, sea, land and space. This achievement reflects years of tireless efforts of IAI’s employees, who have worked around the clock since October 7, 2023, with one mission – to safeguard Israel’s citizens.”

Operation Rising Lion marked the first operational deployment of several of these technologies in distant theatres, incorporating artificial intelligence to enhance coordination and decision-making. The integrated systems enabled seamless communication and intelligence-sharing between military branches and decision-makers at the highest political levels.

Founded in 1953, IAI is one of Israel’s largest and most prominent defence companies, combining decades of experience with advanced innovation across space, air, land, sea, cyber and homeland security sectors. The company remains committed to advancing the next generation of defence solutions, both for Israel and its global partners.
