Indra Group and EDGE have signed a Memorandum of Understanding as a first step toward creating a joint venture in Spain focused on developing, producing and maintaining loitering munitions and smart weapons. The agreement aims to support Spanish, European and selected international markets, with scope for wider cooperation across European defence programmes.

The MoU was signed at the Dubai Airshow by Ángel Escribano, José Vicente de Los Mozos and Hamad Al Marar. The companies said the planned venture would build on Indra’s expanding industrial footprint in Spain and EDGE’s experience in loitering munitions.

Ángel Escribano said, “This partnership would bring together complementary capabilities, experience, and commercial reach in the loitering munition and smart weapons segments to deliver world-class solutions to our clients.” He highlighted the combined strengths both sides expect to contribute to the initiative.

Hamad Al Marar said, “EDGE has built an agile industrial ecosystem capable of responding rapidly to new opportunities and delivering export-ready solutions at speed.” He added, “Our collaboration with Indra reflects not only a long-standing relationship built on trust and shared ambition, but also a strategic pathway for expanding our presence across European markets through joint innovation and advanced manufacturing.”

José Vicente de los Mozos stated, “By establishing both engineering and production capabilities in Europe, we would ensure sovereignty and boost commercial opportunities on the continent.” He noted that European-based activity would reinforce access to key markets.

The companies said smart weapons and loitering ammunition offer flexible options on the modern battlefield. They explained that such systems allow strikes against hidden targets that appear briefly without exposing high-value platforms.

Indra and EDGE described the potential venture as a way to strengthen industrial and technological ties between Spain and the UAE. They said it would unite Indra’s defence expertise and access to European and NATO markets with EDGE’s rapid development model and advanced engineering capabilities.

Both sides noted that the initiative would add momentum to their existing cooperation. In 2024 they launched PULSE NOVA, a joint venture for engineering, developing, manufacturing, integrating and maintaining radar systems, as well as promoting them in high-potential markets and pursuing new international opportunities.
