The company has acquired a site covering more than 50,000 square metres in A Coruña. The property includes nearly 15,000 square metres of existing industrial buildings.
Indra expects the facility to create between 70 and 120 highly skilled direct jobs. Further employment is expected among suppliers and companies providing associated services.
The As Pontes factory will join the military vehicle production centre opened in Gijón last year. Together, the two sites will increase Indra Land Vehicles’ industrial floor space to about 40,000 square metres.
Indra is also evaluating locations for a third plant in Spain’s northern industrial corridor. That facility could lift the division’s total production area to 55,000 square metres.
The As Pontes site is expected to integrate amphibious combat vehicles, bridge-laying vehicles and wheeled artillery systems. Indra plans to develop those platforms for the Spanish Armed Forces.
The facility will handle system integration, testing, validation and entry into service. It will also include a dedicated test track and equipment for complex military vehicle programmes.
“What we are building in the northern corridor is much more than an expansion of our production capacity,” said Josep María Recasens, Chief Executive of Indra Group. “We are developing a new generation of factories designed from scratch to integrate advanced digitalization, automation and artificial intelligence, with the aim of placing them among the most efficient and competitive in Europe”.
Indra expects its northern corridor operations to reach annual integration and production capacity of about 500 vehicles. The company said the expanded industrial base would support faster, more reliable and more competitive deliveries.
The investment forms part of Indra’s wider plan to expand its defence manufacturing footprint across Spain. The strategy follows the three industrial corridors defined by the Spanish Ministry of Defence.
Indra plans to increase its total production floor space from about 36,000 square metres to more than 154,000 square metres. The broader programme includes investment exceeding €200 million.
The expansion is expected to create more than 1,000 direct industrial jobs. Indra also plans to add about 1,400 engineering and other highly qualified positions.
