Iran uses commercial vessels as carriers for drones and missiles

By Arie Egozi

The Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has revealed that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) is converting commercial vessels into military ships equipped with UAVs and missile systems.

“Iran intends to establish terrorist bases in the maritime areas of the Middle East region,” said Yoav Gallant.

During a public speech, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant stated that the IRGC naval forces are attempting to infiltrate by constructing “floating terror bases.” He also addressed the necessary measures to counter Iran’s regional aggression and the threat posed by its nuclear program.

Minister Gallant provided details on the Iranian strategy of converting trading vessels into military ships armed with offensive equipment, including UAVs and missile systems, as well as advanced intelligence-gathering capabilities. He also mentioned their intention to position these vessels at considerable distances from Iran for extended periods.

“Iran’s behavior resembles that of criminal organizations rather than that of a modern state. The floating terror bases are an extension of Iran’s ongoing maritime terrorism, as evidenced by its actions in the Persian Gulf and Arabian Sea. Iran seeks to expand its influence to the Indian Ocean, the Red Sea, and even the shores of the Mediterranean. This structured plan aims to threaten both military and civilian trade and flight routes while creating a permanent threat in the maritime domain.”

The minister emphasized that the effective response to Iranian terrorism in the air, at sea, and on land requires international cooperation and the formation of coalitions.
