Israel Aerospace Industries’ Dror 1 satellite reaches final orbit and begins operational mission

By Defence Industry Europe

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has confirmed that the country’s national communications satellite, Dror 1, has reached its final altitude of 36,000 kilometres and begun its operational mission. The satellite transmitted telemetry verifying the deployment of its solar panels, communication antennas and activation of its main engine, ensuring it was precisely positioned in its intended orbit.

Boaz Levy, IAI’s President and CEO, said: “The telemetry received from Israel’s national communications satellite Dror 1 confirms its full functionality and successful entry into orbit, marking another major milestone in Israel’s journey to space independence. Guided by a deep sense of responsibility for the State of Israel’s strategic decision, IAI is proud to lead the nation’s space endeavours and provide it with sovereign capabilities in space.”

Launched on 13 July 2025 aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from SpaceX’s Cape Canaveral site in the United States, Dror 1 sent back initial telemetry after liftoff confirming its proper operation. Subsequent tests by IAI engineers, along with in-space checks and adjustments from the company’s control centre, brought the satellite to its designated orbital position.

IAI, Israel’s national “Space House”, has been central to the country’s space programme since the 1980s, developing communications and observation satellites for scientific, civilian and national purposes. Dror 1, fully developed and produced in Israel, is among the most advanced communications satellites worldwide, designed to provide flexible, secure and reliable communications for years to come.
