The move follows the Arrow system’s performance during the Swords of Iron War, particularly in Operation Rising Lion, where it demonstrated critical interception capabilities. The Arrow system offers both exo-atmospheric and endo-atmospheric interception against ballistic missile threats, serving as a key element of Israel’s strategic defence.
The deal was led by Moshe Patel, Director of the Israel Missile Defense Organization (IMDO), which operates within the Ministry’s Directorate of Defense Research & Development (DDR&D). “This production agreement is part of the Ministry of Defense’s emergency defence plan following the Iron Swords War, and provides an operational response to the threats we face,” said Patel.
IAI serves as the prime contractor for the Arrow system and its interceptors, developed at the MLM facility in cooperation with U.S.-based Stark Aerospace. Other contributors to the programme include IAI’s ELTA and TAMAM divisions, Elbit Systems, Tomer, and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.
The Arrow system is jointly developed with the U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA), a key partner in Israel’s multi-layered defence infrastructure. “Together with the U.S. Missile Defense Agency, we are providing a high-quality, operational, and technological response to the threats posed to the State of Israel,” Patel added.
The MDA works closely with the IMDO in developing Israel’s defensive systems, including David’s Sling and Iron Dome. This partnership ensures Israel maintains its technological edge in air and missile defence.
