As part of the agreement, the Israel Ministry of Defense will acquire five “Reshef” missile ships from Israel Shipyards. These advanced vessels will replace the ageing “Nirit” Sa’ar 4.5-class ships, which have served the Israeli Navy for over 40 years. The construction of the new ships will be carried out domestically, providing employment to hundreds of Israeli workers.
The procurement also includes hundreds of new JLTVs to enhance the mobility and protection of the Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF) manoeuvring forces. These state-of-the-art vehicles will be delivered in phases over the coming years.
The “Nagel Committee,” established in response to the October 7th conflict and the ongoing war, has been tasked with evaluating the defence budget and force build-up needs. Defence Minister Yoav Gallant stated that the committee’s recommendations are critical to ensuring Israel’s military remains well-equipped for emerging challenges.
The approved procurement projects will now be submitted to the Knesset’s Joint Committee for the Defence Budget for final authorisation. Upon receiving parliamentary approval, the Ministry of Defense will move forward with implementing these strategic acquisitions.
