Israel Weapon Industries to supply IDF with NIS 67M NEGEV machine guns after operational success

By Defence Industry Europe

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has placed a new order worth NIS 67 million (approximately USD $20 million) for NEGEV light machine guns from Israel Weapon Industries (IWI), a subsidiary of SK Group. The decision follows the weapon’s proven effectiveness during the recent Swords of Iron War.

Developed in close collaboration with the IDF, the 7.62mm NEGEV UX weighs only 6.8 kg and offers high firepower, accuracy and low recoil. Its semi-automatic mode and manoeuvrability were vital for rapid tactical operations and close-quarters combat in complex urban environments.

The NEGEV UX is equipped with a long Picatinny rail for optics and accessories, a telescopic buttstock, M-LOK rail, and supports both semi- and full-automatic firing modes. Its two-position gas regulator ensures reliable performance under extreme environmental conditions such as mud and sand.

The IDF has described the NEGEV UX as a force multiplier in ground manoeuvring, with the ability to support both urban and long-range engagements. This procurement underlines the weapon’s adaptability and growing importance in modern infantry warfare.

“We are proud to support the IDF with reliable and effective weapon systems that protect our country and our people,” said Ronen Hamudot, Vice Chairman of SK Group. “We are honoured to see the IDF expanding its use of the NEGEV, which speaks to the proven effectiveness of the system by one of the most battle-tested armies in the world.”

IWI will also supply a comprehensive maintenance package to ensure long-term operational readiness for the IDF’s infantry forces. Delivery of the new machine guns is scheduled for 2026 and 2027.

Founded by Israeli industrialist Samy Katsav, SK Group includes leading companies across the defence and security sector. IWI, best known for the UZI submachine gun and other advanced weapons, supplies over 60 countries with combat-proven systems designed for evolving operational needs.
