The decision follows a decree issued by the Italian government in July, which outlined its intention to modernise its air fleet with the advanced multirole fighter aircraft. On Tuesday, the Defence Commission of the Chamber of Deputies and the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Senate voted in favour of the decree, clearing the way for the procurement.
The acquisition is a significant development for the Eurofighter consortium, a collaboration between BAE Systems, Airbus, Leonardo, and Spain’s Indra Sistemas. The deal includes not only the jets themselves but also logistical support, ensuring operational readiness for the Italian Air Force.
