Japan purchases 400 Tomahawk cruise missiles

Japan's Ministry of Defence announced a significant enhancement to its stand-off defence capabilities with the acquisition of 400 Raytheon's Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles.

 

This move, part of a Foreign Military Sales agreement with the U.S., was formalized in the presence of Japan’s Defence Minister Minoru Kihara and U.S. Ambassador Rahm Emanuel.

The deal includes 200 Block IV and 200 Block V Tomahawks, along with control systems, support, and training.

The deal is valued at USD 1.7 billion.
