The latest delivery of six systems completes Estonia’s order from KNDS France and is intended to “further increase the firepower, mobility and combat readiness” of the Estonian Defence Forces, the ministry said in a statement on social media platform X.
The first battery of CAESAR guns reached initial operational capability in July during training exercises with reservists. The exercises followed theoretical and practical training on the operation and fire control of the French systems.
Estonia signed the procurement deal on June 19, 2024, with France’s Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) and KNDS France. The agreement consisted of an executive contract for 12 guns and a framework contract covering up to 24 systems.
No financial details were disclosed, but the ministry confirmed that the option clause included in the agreement may be exercised.
Alongside the CAESARs, Estonia currently operates 24 South Korean K9 Kõu 155mm howitzers and is expected to receive 12 more in 2026. The country has also purchased six U.S.-made M142 HIMARS rocket launchers, with plans to double that number.
The CAESAR and HIMARS systems will form the divisional artillery of Estonia’s sole military division.
