KNDS Deutschland has been subcontracted by ARTEC to supply BOXER RCT 30 wheeled infantry fighting vehicles for the German Army. ARTEC, a joint venture between KNDS Deutschland and Rheinmetall Landsysteme, signed the related contract with OCCAR, the Organisation Conjointe de Coopération en Matière d’Armement.

The procurement was initiated by Germany’s Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) and coordinated through OCCAR. A total of 150 vehicles will be delivered to the Bundeswehr under the designation “Schakal,” while the Dutch armed forces will receive an additional 72 units.

Deliveries of the first BOXER RCT 30 systems are scheduled to begin in late 2027. With the addition of Germany and the Netherlands, the vehicle is now under contract in four user nations.

Developed by KNDS, the BOXER RCT 30 will form the backbone of Germany’s newly established “Medium Forces”. “The combination of the proven BOXER, already deployed in seven nations, and the proven 30-millimeter turret of the PUMA infantry fighting vehicle enables the ‘Schakal’ to engage moving targets, even while moving.”

The new vehicle also features anti-drone and anti-aircraft capabilities and is equipped with the MELLS anti-tank system (multi-role lightweight guided missile system). With space for six soldiers, the Schakal will serve as the primary weapon system of the Grenadiers in the Medium Forces.
