Two prototypes for the Czech Army are already complete and will undergo military trials with the Army of the Czech Republic (ACR) this summer. Training for gun crews and maintenance personnel has already been completed in France.
Since mid-2023, 19 CAESAR 8x8s delivered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine have fired over 40,000 rounds, demonstrating the system’s operational effectiveness. Meanwhile, preparations for production continue as the final assembly of initial units begins at Excalibur Army in early June.
“Teams from our partner have visited KNDS in Roanne several times to receive training, ensuring they are ready to begin final assembly in the Czech Republic to meet the contractual delivery schedule as well as industrial cooperation commitments,” KNDS stated. The training ensures full readiness for production to proceed smoothly at the local level.
A key element of the programme is local industrial involvement, with 40% of each CAESAR 8×8 to be produced within the Czech Republic. Excalibur Army will handle final assembly, Retia will provide communication and fire control system hardware, and Tatra Defence Vehicles and Tatra Trucks are responsible for the cabin and chassis.
KNDS has also confirmed collaboration with STV for the certification of Czech-produced 155mm ammunition.
