The building will serve as a hub for technology, innovation, administration and IT, consolidating key departments under one roof. The project has been shaped through close collaboration between Kongsberg, Veidekke, architects, subcontractors and advisors.
“This project marks an important milestone for Kongsberg in realising our growth ambitions,” said Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. He added, “By establishing a modern and sustainable facility, we are enabling continued technological development and innovation within the defence sector.”
The structure will meet the BREEAM Excellent environmental certification, in line with the EU Taxonomy and Energy Class A requirements. It will feature energy-efficient systems, sustainable energy solutions, and significantly reduced greenhouse gas emissions during both construction and operation.
Low-carbon concrete (Extreme and Class A) will be used in the building’s structural system, and the entire construction process will be fossil-free. These measures are intended to ensure long-term environmental responsibility in both the development and usage of the facility.
“This is a major and significant project for many – locally, nationally and internationally – and it is of great importance to us at Veidekke,” said Jimmy Bengtsson, CEO of Veidekke. He praised the strong cooperation during development and stated, “We are grateful to Kongsberg for their trust and look forward to continuing our strong partnership into the construction phase.”
‘Utsikten’ represents a significant investment in both advanced technology and sustainable building practices. Construction will now move forward as KONGSBERG positions itself for continued innovation and growth in the years ahead.
