The newly expanded 95,000-square-foot facility will focus on engineering, integration, testing, and programme management for missile defence initiatives. This investment will allow L3Harris to deliver strategic capabilities in the latter half of President Trump’s second term.
Members of Indiana’s congressional delegation attended the dedication ceremony to mark the completion of the facility. Representative Marlin Stutzman (R-IN) stated, “The new investments and construction by L3Harris in Fort Wayne are a crucial step in making the defensive capabilities of our country ‘Made in America’ again.”
Rep. Stutzman also emphasised the economic benefit to the local area, noting, “The incoming jobs to our community will boost our local economy to the tune of millions of dollars. More companies should follow L3Harris’ lead in returning their operations to our shores and uplifting the communities that made them what they are today.”
L3Harris confirmed that the expansion significantly enhances its production output to meet national defence needs. “With capacity to produce 48 payloads per year, we continue to deliver at the scale and speed our defence customers require and are successfully poised to protect against threats to our homeland,” said Ed Zoiss, President of Space and Airborne Systems at L3Harris.
The company currently has five satellites on orbit and 34 in production for key U.S. defence programmes. These include the Space Development Agency’s Tracking Layer and the Missile Defense Agency’s Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS) programme.
Beyond defence, the facility will also support increased satellite production for global civil weather programmes. L3Harris remains a key provider of mission-critical technology across a range of space-based initiatives.
