By Defence Industry Europe

L3Harris Technologies has launched a new WESCAM Authorised Service Centre (WASC) in Bologna, Italy, to provide local support and services for Italian end-users and regional customers of its WESCAM MX-Series electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensor systems. This facility is part of L3Harris' strategy to expand its customer support network and deliver self-reliant defence capabilities to its clients.

The new centre, situated within a 5,500-square metre manufacturing and support facility, is equipped to enhance operational readiness by offering advanced repair capabilities for WESCAM MX-Series systems. It features specialised service equipment and testing capabilities designed to accelerate mission-readiness, along with local technician support systems.

“The opening of our new Italy WESCAM Authorised Service Centre is a monumental step forward to expanding our service and support throughout Italy and surrounding NATO allies,” said Tom Kirkland, Vice President & General Manager of Targeting and Sensor Systems at L3Harris. He added that the company is committed to “localisation and providing customised solutions for our customers’ unique challenges.”

The WESCAM MX-Series provides field-proven, multi-sensor and multi-spectral EO/IR imaging systems that support intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and target acquisition missions across various platforms. L3Harris designed the systems for reliability and ease of use, ensuring operators can focus on mission objectives.

Globally, L3Harris has delivered over 7,000 WESCAM MX-Series systems, with more than 1,400 in use across Europe. These systems are deployed on more than 260 types of platforms in 86 countries, underscoring their wide operational footprint and versatility. By enhancing in-country manufacturing and service capabilities, the new Italian WASC will enable local teams to perform production, repair, and maintenance tasks, strengthening Italy’s defence infrastructure and contributing to the local economy.
