VAMPIRE, short for Vehicle Agnostic Modular Palletized ISR Rocket Equipment, provides advanced reconnaissance and precision strike capabilities against unmanned aerial systems. It is designed to help European ground forces defend allied infrastructure from drone and remotely piloted aircraft threats.
“L3Harris’ VAMPIRE has proven to be a reliable and cost-effective response to the growing counter-UAS threat on the global battlefield,” said Tom Kirkland, Vice President and General Manager, Targeting and Sensor Systems, L3Harris. “We will continue to work closely with the Department of Defense and our allied partners to provide formidable counter-UAS technology domestically and abroad.”
The VAMPIRE system integrates the rugged WESCAM MX-10D RSTA targeting and sensor suite with a weapons station, enabling operators to identify and engage targets swiftly. It also features the Advanced Precision Kill Weapons System rocket, paired with L3Harris’ proximity fuze and Widow mission management software, to enhance its effectiveness against both ground and aerial threats.
L3Harris noted that VAMPIRE demonstrates potential for use in multi-domain environments, including maritime operations. Its capabilities may be adapted for defending against unmanned aerial systems, fast inshore attack craft, and low-slow flying targets at sea.
