The industry team aims to deliver two new payloads compatible with both medium and large robotic platforms. L3Harris will focus on creating a precision aim module, a high-precision robotic arm with a high-recoil disruptor capability, while also collaborating on a dual-arm, high-dexterity manipulation system to enhance operational flexibility.
Paul Bosscher, Robotics Chief Engineer at L3Harris, highlighted the importance of these advancements, stating: “The precision aim module will provide unrivalled accuracy and high performance during EOD operations. These advanced payloads offer vastly improved dexterity and precision during challenging tasks. We’re constantly evolving robotic capabilities such as these to ensure customers stay one step ahead of the threat.”
The precision aim module is equipped with a disruptor capable of firing multiple projectiles, allowing for accurate neutralisation of explosive threats from a safe distance. The high-dexterity manipulation system, developed with HDT Global’s Adroit® dual-arm manipulator and L3Harris’ intuitive haptic controller, will enable operators to perform delicate tasks like unzipping bags with precision and efficiency.
L3Harris T7 and T4 robots, already in service with leading military forces in the U.K., U.S., and Australia, will benefit from these enhanced payload capabilities. The addition of these new systems aims to further support global EOD missions, ensuring that military personnel have access to the most advanced robotic solutions.
