Leonardo DRS will act as the prime contractor, bringing its integration expertise, while KNDS, the current producer of CAESAR, contributes its proven mobile artillery technology and ammunition capabilities. The system is already combat-proven, designed for precision, adaptability, and rapid deployment in modern battlefields.
“The ability for soldiers to rapidly and reliably put artillery on target is a crucial mission the U.S. Army is addressing,” said Aaron Hankins, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Leonardo DRS Land Systems business unit. “By teaming with KNDS, we are proud to be able to offer the service with a mature, accurate, and high-performing solution that is ready to be fielded today.”
The CAESAR platform is designed to deliver longer-range artillery support with high precision and quick response times. Its rapid-fire capability, coupled with strong mobility, makes it effective in varied terrain while offering sustained support during engagements.
KNDS highlighted the system’s performance in Ukraine, where 120 CAESAR systems are currently deployed, as proof of its reliability and survivability in high-threat environments. “KNDS is proud to team with Leonardo DRS to offer the US Army an affordable solution based on a very robust, accurate, and combat-proven artillery system,” said Olivier Travert, Marketing and Sales Director of KNDS France.
“This weapon is particularly suited to address the challenges that Warfighters will face in the coming decades,” Travert added. “CAESAR’s 52 caliber ordnance has a superb, demonstrated safety record in combat conditions, in all climates, after firing hundreds of thousands rounds. The lessons learned in three years of combat in Ukraine – where 120 CAESAR are now deployed -, give us an outstanding position to offer the United-States Army a state-of-the-art weapon which can be integrated on a U.S. tactical truck.”
The collaboration reflects Leonardo DRS’s focus on delivering integrated systems for emerging defence needs, while giving KNDS a significant opportunity to enter the U.S. defence market. Together, the companies aim to offer a ready-to-field solution tailored to the evolving operational demands of the U.S. Army.
