The SHIELD programme, or Scalable Homeland Innovative Enterprise Layered Defense, is designed to accelerate the delivery of advanced capabilities to support U.S. national security. It enables participating companies to compete for task orders across a broad range of defence technologies.
Leonardo Electronics US Inc. said the award positions the company to provide advanced laser systems and precision payloads. These include sensors and electronic warfare technologies intended for integration into layered defence systems.
The company’s products are already used in a range of defence platforms deployed globally. Leonardo said its systems have demonstrated reliability in demanding operational environments and support mission-critical defence operations.
The contract allows the company to compete for future work involving high-power and high-energy laser solutions. It also supports the development of technologies aimed at improving speed and agility in defence capability delivery.
Thomas Glynn, Chief Executive Officer of Leonardo Electronics US Inc., said the company intends to continue supporting U.S. defence efforts. “We look forward to continuing to support the Missile Defense Agency in its critical mission to keep our nation safe.”
Leonardo said the SHIELD contract framework is intended to streamline the procurement of innovative technologies. The company added that participation will enable it to contribute to the development of layered missile defence systems.
