This acquisition builds on a 2021 contract between the Defence Materiel Agency and German manufacturer Daimler Trucks AG, facilitated by NATO’s procurement agency. Since 2021, over 170 Unimog U5000 trucks have been delivered under this agreement. The Lithuanian Armed Forces now operates approximately 500 of these robust, all-terrain vehicles.
Valued at EUR 47 million, the contract benefits from NATO’s ability to negotiate large-scale acquisitions, resulting in cost savings. The Unimog U5000 trucks, known for their ability to handle difficult terrain and cross water obstacles, are crucial for military exercises in challenging environments.
The additional trucks, with a 5-ton payload, are expected to be delivered by the end of this year, further modernising Lithuania’s military fleet.
