Lithuania has decided to acquire 100 Swedish CV90 MkIV infantry fighting vehicles through a joint procurement with five other NATO Allies. The decision was approved by the State Defence Council, with an emphasis on including production of technical components and maintenance services in Lithuania within later acquisition contracts.

The procurement follows Lithuania’s signing of a Statement of Intent in June with Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia and the Netherlands. This was reinforced by a technical agreement concluded in Helsinki in late November, setting out collaboration principles, technical parameters and an action plan ahead of the main contract planned for early 2026.

Under the programme, deliveries of CV90 MkIV vehicles to Lithuania and other participants are planned to begin in 2028. Reliability of supply and the implementation of industrial cooperation are identified as key factors for Lithuania’s future multinational defence cooperation.

The CV90 MkIV is the latest version of the infantry fighting vehicle produced by Sweden’s BAE Systems Hägglunds, offering improved crew safety, advanced control systems and adaptable armaments. According to the Ministry of National Defence, the joint project will modernise national armed forces, strengthen interoperability and industrial cooperation, and enhance the defensive capacity of Northern Europe.
