The newly delivered equipment has been transferred to Lithuanian Armed Forces warehouses as part of ongoing efforts to enhance national defence readiness. The delivery is intended to reinforce both air defence and ground combat capabilities.
According to the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence, the AMRAAM missiles will support the country’s medium-range air defence system. These interceptors are used with the NASAMS air defence system currently operated by Lithuania.
The ministry noted that Lithuania is continuing to expand its NASAMS capabilities. A new NASAMS battery is expected to enter service with the Lithuanian Armed Forces later this year.
Lithuanian Minister of National Defence Robertas Kaunas said the country is maintaining momentum in strengthening its military capabilities. “We continue strengthening our air defence capability and investing in ammunition top-ups.”
He also emphasised the importance of maintaining sufficient ammunition stocks. “The AMRAAM missiles are used for medium range air defence with the NASAMS, of which Lithuania will have a new battery in the course of this year.”
Kaunas added that further procurement is planned to maintain operational readiness. “We are not losing pace: plenty of additional ammunition will be purchase to ensure excellent supply for the Lithuanian Armed Forces.”
The Spike LR2 missiles included in the delivery are designed as rapid-response anti-armour weapons. They provide high firepower against tanks, armoured vehicles, buildings and other high-value targets.
The Lithuanian Armed Forces employ these missiles on Vilkas Infantry Fighting Vehicles. Their integration with the vehicle platform enhances both firepower and engagement range during ground operations.
