On 19 December, the United States Department of War announced the signing of another contract with Lockheed Martin for the provision of logistics support services for the global fleet of multirole combat aircraft from the F-35 Lightning II family. The December agreement is valued at USD 3.6 billion and is to be completed by the end of 2026, with an initial tranche of USD 1.8 billion released at the time of signing.

The funding comes from three branches of the US armed forces as well as export users, without a detailed breakdown of contributions. Under the contract, Lockheed Martin will provide logistics support services, maintenance inspections, emergency servicing, and training for flight crews and ground personnel.

The work will be carried out at manufacturing centres in Fort Worth, Orlando, Greenville, Marietta, and Palmdale. To date, Lockheed Martin has delivered nearly 1,300 production F-35 aircraft of various versions, which have accumulated more than one million flight hours.

More than 3,000 pilots and nearly 20,000 ground personnel have completed training as part of the programme. The aircraft are operated by twelve users, with some having employed them in combat operations, including the United States, Israel, and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
