Lockheed Martin clinches new production contract for HIMARS launchers

By Defence Industry Europe

American defence giant Lockheed Martin has secured a new contract for the production of an unspecified number of M142 HIMARS launchers. According to a statement published by the US Department of Defense, the agreement is valued at over USD 740 million.

Under the terms of the contract, Lockheed Martin will deliver the ordered launchers by the end of 2027, the US Department of Defense stated. The Pentagon has not disclosed the end-users of the contracted launchers. However, Lockheed Martin is currently manufacturing HIMARS systems for various export customers that have acquired the weapon system through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme.

According to publicly available sources, Morocco, Norway, Bulgaria, and Canada are reportedly in negotiations with the United States to procure HIMARS.

As reported by Defence Industry Europe, the Estonian Defence Forces have received six HIMARS launchers, along with ammunition, including ATACMS tactical missiles with a range of up to 290 km.

Amidst growing global demand for Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS), Lockheed Martin is expanding its production capacity for HIMARS. The company recently announced that it produced 96 launchers in 2024 and is working to accelerate deliveries under existing contracts.
