Patria and Lockheed Martin signed their second Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for direct work within Finland´s F-35 industrial participation programme. This MoA provides the contractual framework for the stand-up and qualification of a landing gear doors production line at Patria’s Halli facility in Jämsä, Finland. The production line will deliver landing gear doors for the F-35 global fleet.

Lockheed Martin has summarised the progress of its F-35 Lightning II programme for 2024, highlighting significant achievements despite recent challenges. This year, 110 production aircraft were delivered, overcoming a near year-long suspension in deliveries.

Most of the delivered aircraft were assembled at the primary facility in Fort Worth, Texas. Among them were the first two F-35A Husarz models, which have been stationed at Ebbing Air National Guard Base in Arkansas for training purposes.

Deliveries to Belgium also began, with new aircraft featuring the advanced Block 4 TR-3 configuration rolling off the assembly line since July. This upgrade represents a step forward in the aircraft’s operational capabilities.

In total, Lockheed Martin has delivered nearly 1,100 F-35 aircraft globally across all variants. The programme’s fleet has accumulated close to one million flight hours, marking a major milestone in its operational history.

Last year also saw an expansion in the number of nations adopting the F-35. Greece placed an order for 20 units, while Romania signed for 32. Additionally, production has commenced for Finland’s 64-aircraft contract and Germany’s order for 35 units.

Operational use of the F-35 has also evolved. The F-35C variant was deployed in combat for the first time during operations in Yemen. Meanwhile, Israel has continued extensive use of its F-35I aircraft for missions across the Middle East and beyond.
