The U.S. Department of War has announced the signing of an agreement with Lockheed Martin to support the operation of Ukraine’s F-16AM/BM Fighting Falcon multi-role combat aircraft. The contract, valued at 26 million USD, was signed in September and is scheduled for completion by the end of May 2029.

According to the Department of War, full funding was provided at the time of signing through Ukrainian resources under the Foreign Military Sales procedure and an international military aid programme. The agreement will enable the preparation of a team to deliver technical documentation packages tailored to Ukrainian requirements.

Ukraine’s Armed Forces are operating F-16AM/BM aircraft transferred by European partners including the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway and Denmark. The United States has also supplied an undisclosed number of aircraft, used for spare parts and as decoys to mislead Russian forces.

Within several months of service, the aircraft have been deployed to protect Ukraine’s airspace, intercepting cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. They have also been used for offensive operations, with Ukrainian pilots reporting the downing of Russian crewed aircraft.
