Maxar suspends Ukraine’s access to satellite imagery following U.S. decision

By Defence Industry Europe

Ukraine has lost access to satellite imagery provided by the American aerospace company Maxar Technologies. This development follows a decision by the US government to temporarily suspend intelligence data exchange with Ukraine.

Maxar Technologies has confirmed the suspension, citing its contractual obligations with the US government and various allied and partner nations. The company stated that each customer independently decides how to use and share the data provided through these agreements.

One such contract involves the Global Enhanced GEOINT Delivery (GEGD) programme, a US government initiative that grants access to commercially collected satellite imagery. Maxar clarified that the US government made the decision to suspend Ukrainian accounts within this programme.

The US National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency has also acknowledged this temporary suspension. It emphasised that the GEGD system serves as the primary channel for accessing commercial satellite imagery acquired by the US government.
